What To Wear To A Spray Tan | Your Ultimate Guide

what to wear when getting a spray tan

New to spray tanning? It can be kinda intimidating at first because you don’t really know what to expect. Here’s what to wear to a spray tan so you know what to expect and don’t show up unprepared.

Am I going to turn orange?

Will it look natural?

…Heck, what do I even wear?

That’s why I’ve put this article together so that you’ll feel a little at ease because you’ll know what items to bring with you for your spray tanning appointment.

Real quick, I wanted to share what to do before you go to your appointment.

What To Wear To A Spay Tan

Preparing before a spray tan requires your body to be showered and clean.

If you don’t fully clean your skin, you may be getting a tan that won’t fully absorb into the skin. It’s the same thing as putting makeup on oily skin.

Regardless of the amount used, setting and primer, it will come off the skin much faster than makeup that is applied to clean skin.

Be sure to put your hair up and out of the way. While the spray tan will eventually wash out of your hair if it comes into contact with it, it’s a wise idea to avoid the situation.

It can take a while to wash out.

Do You Wear A Bra For A Spray Tan?

This is a very common question so let me address it quickly. A bra is not mandatory and some women choose to not wear them to prevent tan lines.

However, you can tan while wearing a bra.

You can also tan while wearing a one piece swimming suit.

They do make special underwear that is supposed to maximize the results of a spray tan, while also letting you keep a little more modesty.

So, what about footwear?

This is not the time to wear your favorite boots or shoes. It’s better to wear some flip flops or sandles.

The less material that touches your skin; the better. That way, you don’t run the risk of your tan getting ruined.

What To Do After Getting A Spray Tan?

It is better to wear loose fitting clothing after a spray tan to avoid the tan sticking to your clothes.

Dark clothing is also recommended because some will come off onto the clothing anyway. This would definitely ruin any clothing that is white or light-colored.

PRO TIP: Add self tanner the day after the appointment to make the results last.

This will extend the amount of time between appointments, which will lead to money saved. A bottle of self-tanner does not produce the same quality result; however, it can extend the look of a high-quality spray tan.

It is a good idea that you moisturize with an oil-free product after the tan. This helps the tan set in while also giving the look of your tan an even healthier glow.

Be sure to repeat this step everyday to improve the lifespan of your tan.

What Not To Do After A Spray Tan?

It is not a good idea to bathe right after a spray tan. Depending on the type of spray tan you received will determine how long to wait before showering.

So please avoid water for a bit if your goal is to maximize the lifespan of your spray tan.

Wait before putting on jewelry such as necklaces or bracelets. These items will create lines in the skin that will ruin your tan. It’s also not good for the jewelry.

Do not use harsh exfoliates after the tan if you insist on bathing that night. It may strip the tan completely. There’s also a chance it will make it look rough and uneven.
